Good afternoon everyone,
Happy New Year! Welcome back, and welcome to the second semester of the Inderkum Music Program. I hope you all enjoyed the Holiday break and a much-deserved period of rest.
I had a wonderful, fun/family/friend/food/football-filled, productive break (but truthfully, it was too short, as I returned to work last week). Thank you for the holiday greetings and wishes. I enjoyed seeing our music families out and about and spending time together the last couple of weeks.
I am completely ready to get this semester started. We have a busy five months ahead, filled with fundraising opportunities, volunteer opportunities, Winter Percussion, Winter Guard, Pep Band, Spring Concert preparation, performances, and our trip to Florida. So, let's get going!
Here are your announcements:
In fundraising news, we have two events in the planning stages. We bring these to your attention now so that you can mark your calendars and plan accordingly:
*Beer Night is Wednesday, January 24th, at Track 7 Brewing Company here in Natomas. Please plan to take a little time to unwind after work and stop by.
*Poker Night is being planned for Saturday, March 17th, at the Pagoda Building in downtown Sacramento. We are continually working on details related to this event, and more information will be distributed as details are finalized. An informational meeting, outlining the event and identifying volunteer and donation needs, is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10th, at 7:00 p.m. at Panera on Del Paso Rd (by Safeway). Please plan to join us!
Specific questions related to fundraising can be directed to our fundraising coordinator.
In volunteer news, our most immediate need involves Bingo volunteers. Please reach out to our volunteer coordinators to inquire about opportunities to support Bingo and the music program. Please look for a separate message from them soon.
Attention Winter Percussion/Winter Guard members:
Winter Percussion and Winter Guard practices begin this week. Practices are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., beginning this Tuesday, January 9th. Saturday practices will commence later in the month. Please look for communication about this soon. Student leaders may schedule extra rehearsals, so please encourage your students to remain in close contact with the ensembles in order to receive up to date information.
Attention Pep Band members:
Pep Band performances begin this week, specifically tomorrow, Monday January 8th, and Tuesday January 9th. Please plan accordingly.
As instruments were housed in your residences over Break, they will now need to be returned to school tomorrow. Please remind your students to place the instruments next to their backpacks and school materials tonight so that they are not forgotten in the morning.
Please regularly check Inderkum's website for important dates, events, etc. so that you may plan accordingly with your student and avoid scheduling conflicts. As a reminder there is no school on Monday, January 15th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Looking forward, payment in full for the Florida trip is due in 26 days (February 1st). I highly, highly encourage you to contact World Projects directly to get your student's balance due so that you can plan accordingly to submit your payment to World Projects on time. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to me. I am here to help.
The second semester is underway, everyone. It will be a busy, fulfilling five months. Please support your students by encouraging them to sleep well, eat responsibly, focus on school work, and practice music whenever possible. School work in core classes will intensify as Spring nears, and the students' stamina will be tested. As an elementary school teacher and the mother of a high school'er and a middle school'er, I certainly recognize the challenges involved in maneuvering through hectic work days and crazy school schedules. Please do not hesitate to reach out for help when needed, and please encourage your students to do the same. If I may assist you in any way, please contact me.
Please also support your students by reminding them about the standards of behavior within the band program: respect, integrity, discipline, and excellence. It is the expectation that the students will model these standards at all times. Your participation in deeper conversations about this matter with your students is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your continued support of the students and the music program. Your involvement in the students' educational experiences means a great deal.
And thank you for your kind words, compliments, and feedback. I truly value it all.
Let's get to work, everyone. Have a fantastic week!
