Shawn S. Hines
is currently the Director of Bands at Inderkum High School, where his Band and Guard have an unprecedented record of accomplishments! He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance and a California Teacher’s Credential, both obtained from San Jose State University. Mr. Hines has studied conducting with Vernon Reed and Keith Brien, and also trumpet with James Dooley from the San Francisco Symphony. While in school Mr. Hines played soprano in the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corp, and was later an instructor for the Vanguard Organization. In his professional playing career, he has been honored to perform with many Northern California symphonies and musicals including West Side Story, Wizard of Oz, and Phantom of the Opera, to name a few.
Recognized for his musical excellence, knowledge and promotion of literature for band, Shawn Hines and his groups have performed works by Eric Whitacre, Steven Reineke, Francis McBeth, Claude T. Smith, Robert W. Smith, Clare Grundman, Frank Ticheli, Alfred Reed, Andrew Boysen Jr., James Swearingen, Raugh Vaughan Williams, Anne McGinty, Mozart, Brian Balmages, David Holsinger, Frank Erickson, Jack Stamp, David Gillingham, Gustav Holst, Percy Grainger, Dmitri Shostakovich, Leroy Anderson, Robert Sheldon, and Richard Saucedo. He was honored in 2008 to conduct the San Joaquin County Jr. High Honor Band. Highly regarded by the Walt Disney organization, his groups have appeared at Disney Theme Parks many times over the past 13 years. His impassioned leadership has resulted in invitations for the Inderkum Band to perform throughout the United States!
In his thirteen-year teaching career, bands under his leadership have performed throughout California and Hawaii. They have competed in some of the finest band reviews in Northern California including the Hawaiian Invitational and NCBA’s Tournament of Champions Band Reviews. As the Band Director at Inderkum High School, his teaching responsibilities include conducting the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Electronic Music, and the Inderkum High School Tiger Marching Band. He is very proud to be the director of the Inderkum High School Winter Percussion and Winter Guard.
is a new addition to the Inderkum Music Department and serves as the second band director. She began her career as a music major at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California and completed her degree at California State University Sacramento as a Cum Laude graduate and received her Bachelors of Arts in Clarinet Music Performance and Bachelors of Music in Music Education.
Ms. Agpalza has had the privilege of studying the clarinet under Arthur J. Holton, retired principal clarinetist of the Stockton Symphony and retired conductor of the San Joaquin Delta College Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, Ms. Deborah Pittman from the Brooklyn Philharmonic and Orchestra of New York, Mr. Scott Anderson current Principal Clarinetist of the Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra, and Mrs. Sandra Moats- McPherson of the the Sacramento Philharmonic.
In addition to studying the clarinet, Ms. Agpalza has also studied conducting with Dr. Clay Redfield, Associate Director of Bands at CSU Sacramento, Dr. Halseth, former student of nationally known conductor Eugene Corporon and retired conductor of the Sacramento State University Wind Ensemble, Dr. Eric Hammer, Director of Bands at the University of the Pacific, Dr. Wayne Bennett, conductor of the University of Oregon Symphony Orchestra, and Dr. Chris Chapman, Director of Bands at Oregon State University.
Ms. Agpalza has also had the privilege to work hand in hand with Grammy nominated guitarist Richard Savino, Brazillian Jazz Vocalist Claudia Villela, and nationally known composer Samuel Hazo.
During her first year of teaching, Ms. Agpalza has lead the Inderkum High School Symphonic Band to score their first Superior in concert festival and the Orchestra to score an Excellent. Her course load also includes beginning and advanced guitar, choir, and colorguard.
