Good evening everyone,
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I hope you were able to conclude your football season with great food, friends, family, and fun! May I say: WHAT.A.GAME. I'm very happy for Nick Foles and the Eagles. I haven't enjoyed a Super Bowl like this in a long time. Super Bowl Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year, and I look forward to the next one on February 3, 2019 in Atlanta. Next up? The Winter Olympics! The opening ceremony is this Friday, February 9th, on NBC. Team USA!
Thanks for indulging my sports plug.
And now, here are your announcements (and I ask that you keep this email in your inbox as important dates and information are contained in it):
In fundraising news, our focus is Poker Night, which is planned for March 17th at the Pagoda Building in downtown Sacramento. We are continually working on details related to this event, and more information will be distributed as details are finalized. Please look for communication about this event in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please put a big green circle around this date on your calendar!
In volunteer news, we are in urgent need of help at our Sunday Matinee Bingo sessions. Please consider volunteering! I have linked the sign-up geniusso that you may look for available times. Thank you so much for your time and support at these most important fundraising events.
We anticipate that we will have a need for a large number of volunteers for our Poker Night on March 17th. Again, we are still working on the many details involved with this event. When the volunteer needs are more clearly defined, we will reach out to families with a sign-up genius link. Until then, please save the date: March 17 will be an important night for the music program.
If you would like to inquire about the many ways to get involved with the music program, please reach out to our volunteer coordinators directly.

*Saturday, March 3rd is the Woodcreek Concert Festival for ALL band ensembles (in Sacramento)
*Wednesday, March 7th is a MANDATORY PARENT MEETING, RELATED TO THE FLORIDA TRIP. Parents/guardians of all who are traveling MUST attend this meeting at 7:00 p.m. in Inderkum's theater. (Please plan ahead here: Natomas Middle School and Discovery High School are having their Open Houses on this date too. If you have students that attend either of these schools and plan to attend their Open Houses, please be mindful of the time constraints involved with attending both an Open House and the Mandatory Parent Meeting on the same night).
Regarding the Florida trip, all of our band families should have received a final invoice from World Projects and should have paid the balance due in full by February 1st. If there was a disagreement with the amount due, or if there have been issues with remitting payment, please keep in close contact with World Projects and follow their instructions explicitly.
The Mandatory Parent Meeting on March 7th will address the many questions that have been asked about the Florida trip. All of the details related to call times, flights, itineraries, chaperones, baggage, apparel requirements, etc. will be addressed at this meeting. Thank you all for your understanding and patience as the many details are finalized.
There is one detail about the Florida trip that I will bring to your attention now: If your student is age 18 and over at the time of travel, he/she must have a valid form of identification. If this situation describes your student (and your student does not yet have identification), please reach out to theDepartment of Motor Vehicles immediately and inquire about acquiring identification. Other acceptable forms of identification (such as a U.S. passport) for passengers age 18 and over are listed on the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) website. Please do not delay this inquiry! The trip is only two months away, and the DMV will need significant processing time.
Looking forward, I know a number of you have concerns about your student missing a solid week of school and instruction for this trip. I strongly encourage you to reach out to your student's teachers now in order to make arrangements for missed work, assessments, etc. Specifically, remind your student's teachers that there will be an absence from the classroom from April 9th - April 13th. Inderkum's teachers are aware of this educational experience and will do everything possible to support your student in any way possible.
That being said, the academic demands in core classes will intensify as Spring approaches. Please support your students by encouraging them to stay current with classwork, homework, and projects. Time management will be key. With a known absence from the classroom in April, the students will need to plan ahead. I encourage you to reach out for help or guidance as needed, and please encourage your students to do the same.
If I may assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am here to help.
Thank you for your continued support of the music program. We appreciate you all very much! And on a personal note, thank you for the kind words, compliments, and feedback. It means a great deal to me.
Have a wonderful week, and enjoy the beginning of the Olympics!
