Good evening everyone,
Welcome to October, and welcome to the center of performance season for marching band and color guard. It's going to be a great month!
Here are your announcements:
We extend our thanks to all of the families who came to the football stadium last Friday night to support the band (picture attached to this email), the students, and all that is Inderkum. Your support, presence, and involvement mean a great deal to everyone. Many thanks to everyone who donated to and operated the taco bar. Families look forward to it during game time. Special thanks go to all of the volunteers who helped with cookie dough organization and distribution. It was a very successful fundraiser, and we are proud of the students for all of their efforts. Finally, we extend our thanks to and appreciation for our band directors and their commitment to the students, to the band program, and to excellence. We appreciate all that you do.
In fundraising news, I will refer to last week's email and its information:
*Chipotle night is Tuesday, October 3rd, from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Come join us (at 3830 Truxel Road Ste 300) and keep your kitchen clean that night! The band program receives 50% of the proceeds. Please spread the word to your friends, neighbors, and coworkers. I have linked Chipotle's menu here. When you visit Chipotle that night, you must acknowledge the band program so that it receives the appropriate proceeds. You can acknowledge the program in 3 ways: show the cashier the flyer (attached to this email)*, show the cashier the flyer on your mobile device, or tell the cashier that you are supporting the band program.
*IF YOU HAVE A SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT, PLEASE CONSIDER POSTING THE CHIPOTLE FLYER TO YOUR NEWSFEED TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THIS FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY.
*The annual pancake breakfast and Christmas Bazaar are on Saturday, December 2nd at Inderkum. These are events that require much planning and donation. Included in the items needed for these events: pancake batter, syrup, coffee, plates, napkins, cups, decorations, and crafts that can be sold at our craft tables. If you or anyone you know owns a restaurant or a business in the food service industry, or if you or anyone you know can donate supplies to the breakfast or crafts to our craft tables, please reach out to our fundraising coordinator as soon as possible.
*Paint night is Saturday, December 16th. Please mark your calendars. More details will follow in later communications.
Continuing with fundraising news, we are actively searching for auction prizes for various events we are planning throughout the year. Prizes can either be products or services (such as car repair services, hairstyling services, tutoring services, Uber services, house cleaning services, dog walking services - we would consider any idea). Please reach out to the fundraising coordinator to discuss donation opportunities.
A final note about fundraising: The band members plan to sell popcorn each Friday in the atrium during lunch. The cost will be $1.00 per bag. Please support their efforts by spreading the word and encouraging some popcorn snacking during Friday lunches.
In volunteer news, I will be sending out a separate email tomorrow, which will contain important details related to events and volunteer needs for the month of October. Please look for that email and read it carefully. If you have questions about volunteering, please reach out to our volunteer coordinators. They are happy to speak with you and give you information about how to get involved.
In catering news, our food coordinator will be hosting another get together on Wednesday, October 4th, at Panera on Del Paso Rd at 6:30 p.m. Please stop by to meet her and get information about the formation of a food committee for the band program.
This Saturday, October 7th, is an SAT opportunity for any student who needs to take the exam. We do not have an event scheduled for this day, so please encourage your student to take the exam on this day if at all possible.
Marching band will practice on Monday and Thursday from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., and color guard will practice from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on the same days. Please make sure that your student has water to drink during break periods and that appropriate clothing and shoes are worn. The band and color guard have only 3 more practices until the first review (see below). These practices are very important, and they will be intense. Please encourage your student to reach out to other band members for support when needed, and please encourage them to be a source of support for others. We are all here to help and support the students and the program in any way we can.
We are entering into a much more pleasant weather pattern. Thank you, Mother Nature! Please keep informed about the weather and help your student plan accordingly.
As a continual reminder, please regularly check Inderkum's website for important dates, events, etc. so that you can avoid scheduling conflicts.
You all should have a packet of information about the trip to Florida next April. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY, PAYING SPECIAL ATTENTION TO PAGES 7-8. These pages include travel dates, the cost of the trip, the payment schedule and due dates, and the address for submitting payments. The due date for the sign-up form (page 8) and the first payment was September 30th. The next payment is due October 15th. The payments are not given to the band directors; they are mailed in to World Projects in Benicia, CA. Please follow the instructions on these pages carefully and timely.
Looking forward, please mark your calendar with three more important dates:
*Monday, October 9th - NO SCHOOL (no class/no practice)
*Friday, October 13th - 4th football game performance
*Saturday, October 14th - 1st band review in Elk Grove
Yes, we have performances on consecutive days. More details will follow in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned.
Thank you for continually supporting your students by encouraging their punctuality, preparedness, respectful attitudes, and a willingness to work hard. There is work to be done in the next two weeks to prepare for our first review, and we are excited to get to it.
Have a wonderful evening, and we will see you at Chipotle on Tuesday night!
