I hope this email finds you well, rested, and ready for another busy week!
The band review yesterday was incredible! We are so, so proud of the students! The results are in:
1st place in the AAAAA division for marching band!
2nd place overall finish for color guard!
I invite you to my YouTube channel so that you may view my video of the march. I have also attached several pictures from the day to this email. The students are building their confidence, making life-long friendships, learning life skills, and making some great music! Way to go, everyone! Many, many thanks to our band families who continue to encourage and support the students and the band program. Many, many thanks to my fellow board members for all that you do for the band program each and every day. Much respect to our band directors for their continued commitment to all that is Inderkum Music. We appreciate you all!
And now on to announcements:
Band and color guard picture day is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday October 23rd. Pictures will be taken during normal rehearsal hours.
Students will need to prepare for pictures as they would for a band review. The following is required:
*No make-up can be worn.
*No nail polish can be worn.
*No artificial nails can be worn.
*No jewelry can be worn (and earrings must be removed).
*Long hair must be tied back and styled appropriately (ie: pulled back with ponytail holder, fly-aways clipped down)
*Among the items that students need to prepare for pictures: instruments, a beach towel, buffed marching shoes, black knee-high socks, under armor, athletic shorts, hairbrush, hair ties, and hairspray.
Pictures generally take significant time. This is a large ensemble, with both group pictures and individual pictures being taken. Please remind your student that patience and respect are expected during this process.
Please see the attached order form. It will need to be completed, with money included, and submitted when pictures are taken.
Tuesday, October 24th, is a minimum for NUSD. Students will be dismissed from school at 12:00 p.m. Please regularly check Inderkum's website for important dates, events, etc. so that you may plan accordingly.
In fundraising news, there is a new fundraiser headed your way! Who likes popcorn? The students will begin selling popcorn tomorrow, Monday October 23rd. Please look for the order forms and information going home with your student.
In more fundraising news, I will refer to several previous announcements:
*Paint night is Saturday, December 16th. Please mark your calendars. Information and sign-ups are now available on the website. Click here for more details.
*The band members plan to sell popcorn each Friday in the atrium during lunch. The cost will be $1.00 per bag. Please support their efforts by spreading the word and encouraging some popcorn snacking during Friday lunches.
In volunteer news, I will be sending out a separate email tomorrow, which will contain important details related to events and volunteer needs. Please look for that email and read it carefully. If you have questions about volunteering, please reach out to our volunteer coordinators. They are happy to speak with you and give you information about how to get involved.
Marching band will practice on Monday (if band picture scheduling allows it) and Thursday from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., and color guard will practice from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on the same days. It is entirely possible that the section leaders and band directors will request extra practice sessions, in preparation for performances coming up soon. Please look for communications about modified practice schedules. Again, practices will be intense and challenging. Please encourage your student to reach out to other band members for support when needed, and please encourage them to be a source of support for others. Please also encourage your student to make healthy food choices in order to stay energized, hydrated, and focused. We are all here to help and support the students and the program in any way we can.
There is another SAT opportunity scheduled for December 2nd. The band does not have an event scheduled, so please have your student take the test on this date if possible.
The marching season has been fantastic, and there is more fun to come! Please consider joining us at the next band review on Saturday, November 4th, in Lodi. Further information about this band review will be distributed at a later date.
As we move forward in preparation for the next performance, please remind your student that band class and marching rehearsals are very important, and attendance is required. Please encourage your student to maintain focus, to practice at home whenever possible, to exercise punctuality and preparedness, and to model respectful behavior.
Thank you all for your support and commitment to your students' educational experiences. Your involvement and encouragement matter a great deal.
Have a wonderful week, everyone, and please take some time to enjoy this glorious weather!
