I hope you all have enjoyed a nice, relaxing weekend and are ready to start another great week (and another great month!).
Here are your announcements:
In fundraising news:
*The popcorn fundraiser is going strong! Please encourage your student to SELL, SELL, SELL to family members, friends, neighbors, and trusted adults. Sales incentives were announced during band class, and the goal is 10 units per student. They can do it! Please support them in their efforts. Order forms and money are due by November 6th.
*The annual pancake breakfast and Christmas Bazaar are on Saturday, December 2nd at Inderkum. These are events that require much planning and donation. Included in the items needed for these events: pancake batter, syrup, coffee, plates, napkins, cups, decorations, and crafts that can be sold at our craft tables. If you or anyone you know owns a restaurant or a business in the food service industry, or if you or anyone you know can donate supplies to the breakfast or crafts to our craft tables, please reach out to our fundraising coordinator as soon as possible.
*Paint night is Saturday, December 16th. Please mark your calendars. Information and sign-ups are available on the website. Click here for more details.
Continuing with fundraising news, we are actively searching for auction prizes for various events we are planning throughout the year. Prizes can either be products or services (such as car repair services, hairstyling services, tutoring services, Uber services, house cleaning services, dog walking services - we would consider any idea). Please reach out to the fundraising coordinator to discuss donation opportunities.
A final note about fundraising: Band members continue to sell popcorn each Friday in the atrium during lunch. The cost is $1.00 per bag. Please support their efforts by spreading the word and encouraging some popcorn snacking during Friday lunches.
In volunteer news, I will be sending out a separate email tomorrow, which will contain important details related to events and volunteer needs. Please look for that email and read it carefully. If you have questions about volunteering, please reach out to our volunteer coordinators. They are happy to speak with you and give you information about how to get involved.
Marching band will practice on Monday and Thursday from 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., and color guard will practice from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on the same days. The section leaders and band directors will likely request extra practice sessions, in preparation for the band review on Saturday (see below). Please look for communications about modified practice schedules. Again, practices will be intense and challenging. Please encourage your student to reach out to other band members for support when needed, and please encourage them to be a source of support for others. Please also encourage your student to make healthy food choices in order to stay energized, hydrated, and focused. We are all here to help and support the students and the program in any way we can.
In an attempt to keep the students hydrated during practice and rehearsals, the band is in need of bottles of water. Any donations of water would be greatly appreciated!
There is another SAT opportunity scheduled for December 2nd. The band does not have an event scheduled, so please have your student take the test on this date if possible.
Please regularly check Inderkum's website for important dates, events, etc. so that you may plan accordingly with your student and avoid scheduling conflicts.
The rescheduled Powder Puff Football Game is on November 1st. Students involved in the game in some way (either as a player or as a volunteer in a concession) should have their schedules and assignments. Please encourage your student to reach out to our director, Ms. Agpalza, if there are questions specific to this game.
Our 3rd band review, the Grape Bowl Classic in Lodi, is on Saturday November 4th. Your presence, encouragement, support, and abundant cheering make a big difference! Please plan to join us, and let us watch our students march with pride together! More detailed communication about the review will be sent later in the week.
On the subject of the band review, the current weather forecast is calling for rain, cool temperatures, and 10 mph winds on Saturday. We will march everyone, rain or shine. Please find your umbrellas and raincoats and put them by the door! I strongly encourage you to check the weather forecast regularly as the date approaches.
On a final note, I have good news and less than great news (I am sharing this with you now so that you may plan accordingly):
The less than great news: Saturday's call time is 5:00 a.m.
The good news: Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday (one more hour of sleep!)
Please encourage your students to stay focused, to practice their music at home whenever possible, to make healthy food choices that will keep them energized and hydrated (the cold and flu season has arrived, everyone - let's stay healthy!), and to model respectful behavior at all times. This is an amazing group of students, and it has been a fantastic year!
Thank you, everyone, for all that you do. We appreciate you very much!
Have a wonderful week and a safe Halloween!
