Good evening everyone,
I hope you are all well and ready for another (busy) week!
Here are your announcements (they are lengthy and detailed - please read them carefully, and please keep this email in your inbox for reference throughout the week):
The Chipotle fundraiser was a success! Thanks to all of the families and members of our community who visited Chipotle last Tuesday and enjoyed dinner during a beautiful evening. We appreciate your support very much!
In fundraising news, I will refer to several items from last week:
*The annual pancake breakfast and Christmas Bazaar are on Saturday, December 2nd at Inderkum. These are events that require much planning and donation. Included in the items needed for these events: pancake batter, syrup, coffee, plates, napkins, cups, decorations, and crafts that can be sold at our craft tables. If you or anyone you know owns a restaurant or a business in the food service industry, or if you or anyone you know can donate supplies to the breakfast or crafts to our craft tables, please reach out to our fundraising coordinator as soon as possible.
*Paint night is Saturday, December 16th. Please mark your calendars. Information and sign-ups are now available on the website. Click here for more details.
Continuing with fundraising news, we are actively searching for auction prizes for various events we are planning throughout the year. Prizes can either be products or services (such as car repair services, hairstyling services, tutoring services, Uber services, house cleaning services, dog walking services - we would consider any idea). Please reach out to the fundraising coordinator to discuss donation opportunities.
A final note about fundraising: The band members plan to sell popcorn each Friday in the atrium during lunch. The cost will be $1.00 per bag. Please support their efforts by spreading the word and encouraging some popcorn snacking during Friday lunches.
In volunteer news, I will be sending out a separate email tomorrow, which will contain important details related to events and volunteer needs for the month of October. Please look for that email and read it carefully. If you have questions about volunteering, please reach out to our volunteer coordinators. They are happy to speak with you and give you information about how to get involved.
There is NO SCHOOL tomorrow, Monday October 9th. It is a staff development day for all NUSD personnel. I have linked Inderkum's calendar for October here so that you can plan the month with your student accordingly. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS MARCHING BAND PRACTICE TOMORROW (see below).
Marching band will practice on Monday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., and color guard will practice from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on the same days. It is entirely possible that the section leaders and band directors will request extra practice sessions, as we are entering our first band review on Saturday (see below). Please look for communications about modified practice schedules. Again, practices will be intense and challenging. Please encourage your student to reach out to other band members for support when needed, and please encourage them to be a source of support for others. We are all here to help and support the students and the program in any way we can.
In uniform news, our uniform coordinator will be in the band room during marching band practice this week (see above for practice schedule) beginning at 5:30 p.m. She is requesting the help of two parents who can help her tack up uniform pants during marching band practice time. Please reach out to her directly if you are able to assist her in this process.
Continuing with Inderkum news: All sophomores are taking the PSAT exam on Wednesday, October 11th, during school hours. Please plan accordingly with your sophomore student, and expect some fatigue at the end of that day.
You all should have a packet of information about the trip to Florida next April. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY, PAYING SPECIAL ATTENTION TO PAGES 7-8. These pages include travel dates, the cost of the trip, the payment schedule and due dates, and the address for submitting payments. The due date for the second payment is October 15th. The payments are not given to the band directors; they are mailed in to World Projects in Benicia, CA. Please follow the instructions on these pages carefully and timely.
Our 4th football game performance is Friday, October 13th. Please plan to visit the football stadium to support the students, the band, and all that is Inderkum. Call times and apparel requirements will be announced later in the week.
At the football game we will have our taco bar up and running. We are in need of donations. Specifically, the following items are needed:
*Arizona Iced Teas (tall cans)
*Cans of soda
*Water (for both the band members and the taco bar)
*Cans of corn
Please drop off all donations directly to the band room no later than Thursday afternoon so that an inventory can be taken. Thank you so much!
Our first band review is Saturday, October 14th. I have re-linked all of the informational flyers to this email. Please look them over carefully. Further communication will be sent later in the week.
We have back-to-back performances on October 13th and 14th. Please plan accordingly with your student. These performances, and travel, require energy and concentration, and it can test endurance. Please support your student and encourage choices that will help them successfully navigate the week. Remember that all performances have a grading element to them, and students understand the expectations.
On another note, I would like to inform you all about an opening on our Executive Board for the position of Treasurer. The individual considered would ideally have significant accounting and bookkeeping experience. Our president, Jonathan Corr, would like to meet and speak with individuals qualified to take on this role. Please reach out to him directly.
In regards to band class, please remind your student to be fully participatory in the clean-up process after class ends. Stands, chairs, instruments, music, notebooks, etc. need to be cleaned up and stored accordingly. The expectation is that students show respect not only for each other, but also for the band room, the instruments, the equipment, and their surroundings. We greatly appreciate your support in this matter.
As the students face a very busy 6 days ahead, please remind them that we are all here to support them in any way we can. There are fun times ahead, everyone. We are very proud of the students, thankful for our directors, and appreciative of the support we receive from all of our band families. Many, many thanks are extended to all of you.
Have a fantastic week, and we'll see you at the football game on Friday!
