Inderkum Music Boosters
As with any non-profit 501(c)(3), the Inderkum Music Booster program critically relies on volunteers to facilitate a successful and award-winning program. In order to continue to provide and positive and successful environment for the students, we rely heavily on parent and family volunteer efforts. Each year there are multiple opportunities to volunteer to support the Band’s many events and fundraisers and in many different ways. Some examples include:
The cost of the music program is estimated each year to be between $80,000 and $100,000. The Band Boosters, via fundraising efforts, covers most of those costs. Our biggest fundraising activity, by far, is Bingo, which occurs each Sunday of the year. We cannot continue to provide the support needed to run the music program without it, and need family members to volunteer for this critical component of our fundraising efforts. Even a commitment of only two Sundays per year from each family involved in the music program would go a long way to ensuring that Bingo will continue to provide sufficient financial support to the music program. Without this support, the only way to continue the program would be to significantly increase student participation fees.
In an effort to clarify and fairly spread out the volunteer needs of the program, the Board is instituting some new expectations this year for volunteerism. Each family will be expected to contribute a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer time, and we hope you will choose to contribute more hours to make the Inderkum Music Program a huge success. At the start of the year, sign up opportunities will be provided to all families with links to sign up for the majority of the anticipated events and volunteer positions known at that time. Band Families will be provided time to sign up for events at which they wish to volunteer to fulfill their volunteer hours. Volunteer hours will be credited only to those people who sign up for an opportunity ahead of time and complete the identified volunteer assignment. We know that many families will be present for performances, such as marching competitions, winter percussion and spring performances. If you are at an event and want to help out, we welcome the support. However, volunteer credit hours will only be awarded to those who have signed up ahead of the actual event.
After this time has passed, (typically by October 31st) the Volunteer Coordinators will be directly contacting those families who have not already voluntarily signed up for events to complete their minimum hours. Reminder emails will be sent to families to remind them of volunteer commitments. Additional volunteer opportunities will also be shared with Band Families via weekly communication with a link to an online volunteer sign-up. Families are encouraged to volunteer as much as they would like, and volunteers are not limited to immediate family members. Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, etc. are welcome to support the program by volunteering.
Each student in the Music Program also has an “account” set up through the Boosters. Some fundraising efforts can result in “credits” being applied to individual student accounts throughout the year. Student accounts may be utilized to cover expenses such as a student’s annual band fee, music trips, and/or marching band clothing items (shirts, marching shoes, bags, etc.). Student fund totals may be acquired and requests to apply funds to a balance due should be sent via email to the Band Booster Vice President. Family Members are always welcomed and encouraged to volunteer for longer periods of time outside of the “hours earned” opportunities.
Through volunteering, Family Members can earn hours, which translate into funds that are credited to their student’s account. Once the 10 hour minimum is reached, for each volunteer hour confirmed by the volunteer coordinator(s), $5 for each volunteer hour completed is credited to the student’s account. No funds will be credited to a student account until the 10 hour minimum is reached, with the exception of Bingo volunteer hours, as noted below. Each volunteer opportunity will be listed with a maximum hours earned amount. Volunteers may sign-up for multiple shifts, as available, as long as time slots do not overlap.
Bingo is the most critical of the fundraisers for the Inderkum Music Program as it accounts for the vast majority of our total fundraising. Our Bingo program runs every Sunday, 52 weeks per year, and requires approximately 10 volunteers per week. As such, volunteering for Bingo will result in immediate hours credited to the student’s account, without regard to the 10 hour minimum.
